How To Set Up Thunderbird Email

Learn how to set up Thunderbird email account by following the procedure given below.

  • Step 1:Launch the Mozilla Thunderbird application on your computer and go to the Tools menu.
  • Step 2:If you don’t have the Thunderbird application, download it from the official Mozilla website.
  • Step 3:Select the Account Settings option from the displayed list. Now, click on the Add Account button.
  • Step 4:Select the Email account option in the New Account Setup window and click Next.
  • Step 5:Type your name and email address. Then, click Next.
  • Step 6:In the Account wizard, choose your incoming server as IMAP or POP.
  • Step 7:Enter the incoming mail server address;
  • Step for a POP account.
  • Step for an IMAP account. Replace your email service domain name for “yourdomain.”
  • Step 10:If you have selected the POP mail server, enter 110 (unsecured) as the port number. For a secured SSL connection, enter 995 as the port number.
  • Step 11:For an IMAP account, the unsecured port number is 143, and the port number for TLS connection is 993.
  • Step 12:Type the username of your account and click Next.
  • Step 13:You can enter your email address in the Username section. Then, type an account name. Then, click Next.
  • Step 14:Click on the Finish button to exit the wizard.
  • Step 15:Now, select the Outgoing Server link on the left panel.
  • Step 16:Select the existing SMTP server and click Edit.
  • Step 17:When the SMTP Server window appears, enter the outgoing mail server address as
  • Step 18:Enter 25 as the port number for the SMTP server for a plain protocol. For a secured TLS connection, type 587 as the port number. Otherwise, use 465 for an SSL connection.
  • Step 19:Checkmark the username and password box under Security and Authentication.
  • Step 20:If you want a secure connection, select either TLS or SSL. Click the OK button displayed at the bottom of the window.
  • Step 21:Now, you have successfully completed how to set up Thunderbird email. You can now send and receive emails from your account on Thunderbird.
